WordCraft vs other word processors
Three task-led comparisons for people who need .docx files to open, look right and reach colleagues unchanged.
WordCraft is an open-source, clean-room word processor written in pure Rust, currently in alpha, and it is not Microsoft Word. The pages below compare it with the three word processors people most often weigh it against. In this guide, WordCraft means only the ArtCraft word processor, not the English word “word”.
WordCraft vs Microsoft Word
File formats, offline use, co-authoring and the desktop-only features that matter most when a .docx has to survive a round trip.
comparisonWordCraft vs LibreOffice Writer
Two open-source routes to a word processor, with OpenDocument and .docx on both sides and different automation surfaces.
comparisonWordCraft vs Google Docs
A native desktop editor against a browser service: where each runs, how files move, and how people share and review.
How to use these comparisons
Each page compares public categories: file formats, platforms, review tools, references, automation and project status. Facts about WordCraft come from its official page, its GitHub README and its v0.5.0 release page. Facts about the other products come only from their public product or support pages, and only as categories.
No page here names a winner, runs a benchmark or quotes prices, version numbers or market figures. The test that counts is one real file from your own work, run through each tool you are considering.
